Catherine & Peter’s Wedding at the Grand Chinese Cuisine

Catherine & Peter’s wedding coincided with Anime North at the International Plaza Hotel.  It was fascinating to see my favourite Anime characters walking outside the Grand Chinese Cuisine while I was setting up.  Anyway, Catherine and Peter’s wedding started off with a short tea ceremony.  We then kicked off with Jazz and Lounge music infused cocktails.  Guests started to arrive as music from Workshy, Zero 7 and the like filled the air.

We were ready to start the merry making as soon as the clock stuck 7:00 pm.  Our MC’s flawlessly introduced the bridal party and the bride/groom.  This was all done to the tune of Five Years Time by Noah and the Whale – expertly remixed by 3 Owls to heighten the mood of the Grand Entrance and remove unsavoury parts of the song.  The 12 course meal then starts while the MC’s introduces the Kissing Game.  Guests are asked to either sing a song or tell a story about the Bride and Groom.  The quality of their story/performance will determine the length or the kiss.  The guests weren’t shy at all.  People took on the microphone all night.  We even had to delay cake cutting because of the backlog! =)

Let’s skip the speeches and fast forward to the cake cutting.  As we were getting ready, we noticed that the little “Peter” figure was started to lean and potentially fall off the cake.  Our MC quickly caught it before it fell and the banquet manager had to apply a quick remedy to it.  Everyone had a good laugh.  Things sometimes go wrong in weddings and I truly appreciate clients who see beyond these and continue to have fun.

The wedding program was the longest I’ve ever experienced – kicking off dancing around 11pm.  However, it never once felt dragging.  The guests were very interactive throughout the evening.  Their body language never once expressed anxiousness to leave.  The stories and songs from the Kissing Game were all very entertaining.  It’s no secret.  Having good friends and family at your wedding is the ingredient that will spice up the evening.
