Lion Dance

Lion Dances have long been part of Chinese culture.  These dances are part of grand celebrations like New Year, Birthdays, and Weddings.  It is believed to bring good fortune and luck.  For Chinese Weddings, it adds a touch of class and culture since you don’t see much of it anymore.

Lion Dances involve several people in a Lion Dance Troupe.  Two people forming a Lion costume dance around to the beat of the drum and loud cymbals.

Where do people generally have these Lion Dances in Chinese Weddings?  There are several variations.  The most common ones are during the tea ceremony, as a performance in the reception, and as part of the Bridal Party making the grand entrance into the reception.

Lion Dance Troupes generally perform from 10-20 mins.  You generally book them separate from the rest of the entertainment in the evening.  The cost varies depending on the season, the duration, and the size of the troupe.  In Toronto, you will expect to pay from $400 to $700.
